Ten sentenced of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof disproving her claim in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
