In a bizarre crossover event that challenges conventional forecasts, the game developer has unveiled an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Revealed

According to the official announcement, "A strange encounter draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of prohibited rituals and terrifying transformations reverberate through the darkness." The plot features a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden sect.

The adventure centers on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is accessible to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Metamorphoses

The preview highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview ends with a powerful moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Rewards and Bonus Material

Players who finish the adventure will receive an unique katana together with multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Newest Free Story Content

This release also introduces the game's third free story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature techniques: Naoe introduces a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a original environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Partnerships

This marks not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime properties. The series formerly featured a 2020 collaborative story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
